A year to remember... Miranda Price

After entering the National Championships in 2008 as a brown belt and battling her way to winning the Gold medal Miranda has had a busy year. (This is the first time a brown belt has won this kumite event)
After taking the title in July Miranda quickly went on to take and pass her Black Belt in August. Following the win in the Championships Miranda was asked to train with the England squad. (This in itself is a great achievement and one shared by by only 95 karateka in the country in the past two years. Interestingly SESKA students have made up 10% of that number). As you can imagine Squad training and ultimate selection is grueling, both in effort when on the dojo floor and in effort to attend the sessions. They are commonly held in London, but may well change and be anywhere in the Country. (This takes great committment from the individual and lots of support from friends and family)
Successful squad selection means making a committment to the squad and your home dojo with registered training sessions all counting towards the ultimate goal of team selection.
Coupled with the intensity of squad training and selection Sensei Geoff asked Miranda to begin her journey as an instructor and therefore asked her to act as his No2 in matters relating to training and the running of the dojo's. Miranda accepted this proposal with relish and is now running a very successful children's class on a Tuesday and standing in for Sensei when he isn't around.
Miranda has stuck at it over the long winter months and was successfully picked from the squad to represent England in Team and individual Kumite at last weekends European Championships.
The European Championships is second only to the World Championships in the JKA competition calendar, with some of the very best and most established teams in the world in attendance.
It is with great pride therefore that we can announce Miranda secured third place in the Team Kumite event at the championships. This is the best result at this level of competition for any SESKA student either past or present.
Well done Miranda. Your determination to achieve your goals is one to admire. Bring on the World Championships.
